(Notre-Dame-des-Pins, QC – Le 21 juin 2019) Le Chilien Pablo Andres Alarcon Cares de l’équipe Canel’s-Specialized a remporté vendredi soir la seconde partie de la troisième étape du Tour de Beauce, courte de 78 kilomètres, qui se terminait au sommet de la 20e Rue à Notre-Dame-des-Pins.
Le petit grimpeur a franchi la ligne d'arrivée en 1 h 45m 38 s, devançant Brendan Rhim (Arapahoe|Hincapie p/b BMC). Diego Milan Jiminez (Inteja IMCA - Ridea) a pris le 3e rang, dans le même temps que le gagnant de la soirée.
Cette seconde épreuve de la journée a créé une situation hors du commun après trois jours en Beauce alors que les deux premiers au classement général se retrouvent avec exactement le même temps. Nicolas Zukowsky (Floyd’s Pro Cycling) et Tyler Magner (Rally UHC) n’ont aucun écart à la seconde près et partage la tête du classement.
Selon le règlement, Zukowsky portera encore le maillot jaune en raison de son résultat au contre-la-montre. Le classement est si serré que les cinq premiers sont à moins de 15 secondes d’écart. Le critérium de samedi à Québec s’annonce très enlevant. De précieuses secondes de bonification sont prévues lors des sprints intermédiaires et à l’arrivée.
La formation Floyd’s a toujours une carte en réserve avec Serghei Tvetcov en 3e position à six secondes seulement. Brendan Rhim pointe derrière au 4e rang à 10 secondes, suivi par James Piccoli et Adam Roberge, de l’équipe canadienne, respectivement à 14 et 33 secondes de retard sur Zukowsky et Magner. Jamais le maillot jaune n’aura été si chaudement disputé.
La courte étape s’est déroulée à un train d’enfer. Un groupe de fuyards, composé de coureurs moins menaçants, a réussi à prendre le large mais leur avance n’a jamais dépassé 1 min 30 sec. Les meneurs voulaient les garder en point de mire pour la fin.
La formation Floyd’s a bien géré son effort pour revenir sur le groupe à la flamme rouge du dernier kilomètre. Après un ennui mécanique au cours de l’étape, le maillot jaune Zukowsky a souffert dans la dernière montée, une ascension de 1,2 km à 6,5%.
Le maillot blanc aux points appartient à Brendan Rhim, tandis que le maillot à pois du meilleur grimpeur sera porté par le Colombien Oscar Eduardo Sanchez Guarin (Canel’s). Nicolas Zukowsky conserve aussi le maillot rouge de meilleur jeune.
Les cyclistes ont rendez-vous samedi à Québec pour 35 tours de deux kilomètres. Le départ est prévu à 13 h 30 sur la Grande Allée, près de Place George V.
Le vainqueur du 34e Tour de Beauce sera couronné dimanche au terme de la dernière étape en circuit urbain dans les rues de Saint-Georges.

CHILEAN CYCLIST TAKES EVENING STAGE WIN
(Notre-Dame-des-Pins, QC – June 21, 2019) Chilean Pablo Andres Alarcon Cares of Team Canel's-Specialized Friday night won the second stage of the third day of competition at the Tour de Beauce, a 78-kilometer race which ended at the top of 20th Street in Notre-Dame-des-Pins.
The small climber crossed the finish line in 1 h 45m 38 s, ahead of Brendan Rhim (Arapahoe | Hincapie p / b BMC). Diego Milan Jiminez (Inteja IMCA - Ridea) was third, at the same time as the stage winner.
This second race of the day has created an unusual situation in Beauce after three days of racing while the first two riders in the overall standings have the exact the same time. Nicolas Zukowsky (Floyd's Pro Cycling) and Tyler Magner (Rally UHC) are tied up after four races.
According to the regulation, Zukowsky will still wear the yellow jersey because of his time trial result. The ranking is so tight that the top five are less than 15 seconds apart. The criterium of Saturday in Quebec promises to be very exciting. Valuable time bonuses are planned in intermediate sprints and finish.
The Floyd's Pro Cycling team have a reserve card with Serghei Tvetcov in 3rd position at only six seconds in the General Classification. Brendan Rhim sits fourth behind at 10 seconds, followed by James Piccoli and Adam Roberge of the Canadian team 14 and 33 seconds behind Zukowsky and Magner, respectively. The yellow jersey has never been so hotly contested.
The short stage was contested at high speeds. A group of 12 non-threatening cyclists managed to take off in the breakaway of the day, but their lead never exceeded 1 min 30 sec. The leaders wanted to keep within eyesight to setup the finish.
The Floyd's team managed their effort to come back and captured the break at the 1-km to go mark. After a mechanical trouble earlier in the stage, leader Zukowsky suffered in the last climb, an ascent of 1.2 km at 6.5% grade.
After the stage, the white jersey belongs to Brendan Rhim as points leader, while the polka dot jersey of the best climber will be worn by the Colombian Oscar Eduardo Sanchez Guarin (Canel's-Specialized). Nicolas Zukowsky also retains the red jersey as best young rider in the general classification.
Cyclists will reconvene Saturday in Quebec for 35 laps of a two kilometers circuit. The start of the Criterium is scheduled at 1:30 pm on Grande Allée, near Place George V.
The winner of the 34th Tour de Beauce will be crowned Sunday at the end of the last stage in an urban circuit in the streets of Saint-Georges.
