TYLER MAGNER ENDOSSE LE MAILLOT JAUNE

(Saint-Georges, QC – Le 19 juin 2019) L’Américain Tyler Magner, de la formation Rally UHC Pro Cycling, a remporté la première étape du 34e Tour de Beauce après un ultime effort dans les derniers mètres de l’épreuve.

Vainqueur du Grand Prix de Saguenay dimanche, le Québécois Nicolas Zukowsky (Floyd’s Pro Cycling) a pris le deuxième rang, suivi par un autre cycliste des États-Unis, Brendan Rhim (Arapahoe|Hincapie p/b BMC).

Le trio de tête a franchi la ligne dans le même temps. Au 4e rang de l’étape, une quinzaine de secondes derrière, on retrouve l’infatigable Bruno Langlois (Brunei Continental Pro Cycling), 40 ans, rescapé de l’échappée du jour après 145 kilomètres en tête de course.

Magner portera donc le maillot jaune de meneur au départ de la deuxième étape, jeudi, à Lac-Mégantic. Ce dernier a jeté ses dernières forces à 50 mètres de la ligne sur une difficile pente ascendante.

« La première heure a été très difficile. Le dernier kilomètre aussi ! » a résumé le gagnant qui en est à sa 4e participation en Beauce.

La course longue de 177 kilomètres et trois boucles entre Saint-Odilon et Lac-Etchemin s'est jouée en 4 h 15 min 15 s.

Le Mexicain Ignacio Prado Juarez (Canel’s-Specialized), le Canadien Adam Jamieson (Équipe Canada) et le Québécois Bruno Langlois ont animé la grande partie de l’épreuve, comptant même jusqu’à six minutes d’avance sur le peloton.

Dans la dernière portion de l’étape, trois autres coureurs, dont le gagnant Magner, ont réussi à faire la jonction pour donner un peu de répit aux premiers fuyards. Prado Juarez et Jamieson ont finalement craqué avec moins de 10 kilomètres à faire.

Engagé tard mardi soir par une équipe étrangère, Langlois est arrivé à Saint-Georges moins d’une heure avant le départ pour son 21e Tour de Beauce en carrière. Le vétéran affiche toujours une forme splendide en préparation du championnat canadien qui aura lieu la semaine prochaine. Jusqu’à maintenant, il n’avait fait qu’une seule course sur route en 2019.

«On m’a contacté à la dernière minute. J’étais à mon entreprise Vélo Cartel et on venait de faire une sortie avec des clients. J’ai pris un moment pour y penser mais tout le monde me disait de venir ! Je savais que sur l’endurance, j’avais de l’expérience. Ça aurait été le fun de faire un podium!, » a expliqué l’ancien champion canadien.

L’an dernier, Langlois avait fait le même coup en sautant dans l’échappée de cette première étape.

Il rate par quelques points le maillot de meilleur grimpeur qui appartient au Canadien Adam Jamieson. Le maillot blanc aux points sera porté par le Mexicain Prado Juarez, tandis que Zukowsky endossera le maillot rouge de meilleur jeune.

Plusieurs bons grimpeurs voudront s’illustrer jeudi lors de l’épreuve-reine longue de 169 kilomètres qui partira de Lac-Mégantic à 10 h pour se terminer au sommet du Parc national du Mont-Mégantic.

Le maillot jaune pourrait changer au terme de l’ascension finale de près de six kilomètres.

Le Tour de Beauce 2019 couronnera son champion le dimanche 23 juin.

TYLER MAGNER TAKES POSSESSION OF YELLOW JERSEY AFTER OPENING STAGE

Bruno Langlois comes in as a late addition, and takes fourth place

(Saint-Georges, QC – June 19, 2019) American cyclist, Tyler Magner, representing Rally UHC Pro Cycling team, won the opening stage of the 34th Tour de Beauce after a brilliant final effort in the final meters of the 177-km stage.

Winner of the Grand Prix de Saguenay on Sunday, Quebec's Nicolas Zukowsky (Floyd's Pro Cycling) took second place, followed by another cyclist from the United States, Brendan Rhim (Arapaho|Hincapie p/b BMC).

The leading trio crossed the line at the same time of 4:15:15. In fourth place of the stage, fifteen seconds behind, we find the tireless Bruno Langlois (Brunei Continental Pro Cycling), 40 years old, survivor of the breakaway of the day after 145 kilometers up the road.

Magner will wear the yellow leader's jersey at the start of the second stage on Thursday in Lac-Mégantic. The latter gave every one of efforts with 50 meters from the line on a difficult finish featuring an uphill slope.

“The first hour was very difficult. The last kilometer as well!” summed up the winner, who is at his participating for the fourth edition in Beauce.

The 177-kilometer, three-loop race between Saint-Odilon and Lac-Etchemin took place in 4:15:15.

Mexico's Ignacio Prado Juarez (Canel's-Specialized), Canada's Adam Jamieson (Team Canada) and Quebec's Bruno Langlois led most of the event, showing a maximum gap of six minutes on the peloton.

In the last portion of the stage, three other riders, including the winner Tyler Magner, managed to join the race to give some much-needed help to the riders in the first break. Prado Juarez and Jamieson finally cracked with less than 10 kilometers to go.

Contracted late Tuesday night by a foreign team, Langlois arrived in Saint-Georges less than an hour before the start for his 21st career Tour de Beauce. The veteran is still looking splendid in preparation for next week's Canadian Championships. Until now, he had only one road race in 2019.

“I was contacted at the last minute. I was at my shop Vélo Cartel and had just made a ride with customers. I took a moment to think about it but everyone told me to come! I knew that on endurance, I had experience. It would have been fun to make a podium,” said the former Canadian National Champion.

Last year, Langlois made the same effort by jumping in the breakaway of the opening stage.

He missed by a few points the best climber jersey that now belongs to the Canadian Adam Jamieson. The white jersey points will be worn by the Mexican Prado Juarez, while Zukowsky will wear the red jersey of best young rider.

Many good climbers will want to shine on Thursday during the 169-kilometer long queen race that starts at Lac-Mégantic at 10 am to finish at the top of Mont-Mégantic National Park.

The yellow jersey could change at the end of the final climb of almost six kilometers.

The Tour de Beauce will crown its 2019 champion on Sunday, June 23rd.
